Complete LAST Grad Student Contact List

I have whittled down our main contacts list to a smaller list that includes only LAST graduate students. In this list you can find not only more detailed contact information but also some information on the specific locations and whereabouts of your fellow graduate student colleagues.

You can access this list by clicking here; but I have also posted a link to this list in the left sidebar so that you can have access to it when this posting scrolls off the blog.

If you notice any gaps in the information on yourself or on anyone else, please let me know so that I can update the list accordingly.

Internship Possibilities with Amnesty International

A recent graduate of the Master's Program in Latin American Studies at Tulane, who now works for Amnesty International in Washington, DC, wrote me the following email regarding internship opportunities:
Hi, Jimmy,

I hope you are well, and am glad that you have weathered the storm safely. I just thought that I would offer this up:

I am currently acting as Internship Coordinator in the Capitol Hill office of Amnesty International. It so happens that, even this late in the game, we have room for 3-4 full or part time interns. It is an unpaid position, so it may be a difficult transition for any displaced student, but I thought I would put it out there. Graduate students are preferred, and this might be a feasible "Plan B" for the semester. Internships available are in 1) Domestic Human Rights Program; 2) New Media (Spanish speakers preferred) and 3) National Training Program.

Please reply to me either at this email address [monikagerhart@sbcglobal.net] or through the office at (202) 544-0200, ext. 231.

Could you post this for me, please? Thanks, Jimmy! Best wishes and still thinking of you all.

Yours, Monika

New Orleans Re-Entry

Now that the Mayor of N.O. is letting folks repopulate the City, particularly in uptown New Orleans, I imagine that many of you may want to find ways to get back to check on your place and your things. I am here to let you know that you should not hesitate to let me know if there is anything that you will need to help you with this process.

Let me know if you will need transportation from the airport, for instance. Or if you will need a temporary place to stay for a couple of days if your place is uninhabitable. Anything you might need, you should let me know. I will personally do whatever I can to help you manage a re-entry into the city.

If and when you do make plans to come back, please let me know your dates of arrival and departure -- or, better yet, post it in the comments section of this posting, so that maybe some of you can coordinate re-entry efforts or so that I can help plan the logistics of transportation or lodging for you individually, or for groups of you. Please be in touch with me about this and don't hesitate to shoot me any questions at lastgraduateadvisor@yahoo.com, which is my email address dedicated exclusively to graduate affairs.

Greetings and Introduction

This blog is meant to serve the specific and exclusive concerns, issues, and needs of current and prospective graduate students of the Stone Center for Latin American Studies at Tulane University.

For the past three to four weeks, this main Stone Center blog site has served as the information center for all Stone Center constituencies. In an effort to stream-line communication and make it more efficient and relevant for each of our various constitutencies, we are creating more focused spin-off blogs of the Stone Center's main blog site that are exclusively oriented towards one particular group. This blog focuses on Graduate Affairs and, until we can get our permanent website functional again, will be the main source of communication and information for current and prospective graduate students.

As the Graduate Advisor at the Stone Center, I will be moderating this blog. I encourage current graduate students to continue to be in touch with me regarding your whereabouts and any questions/concerns you may have about your programs and the future plans of Tulane University.

I also would like to encourage prospective graduate students to write to me with your questions regarding admissions and any other related issues.

Please check the blog regularly and do not hesitate to be in touch. You can reach me by email either at rtsclasblog@hotmail.com or at lastgraduateadvisor@yahoo.com. I have created the latter Yahoo email address specifically to manage mail from current or prospective graduate students. If you are a current or prospective graduate student, please try to use the latter email address, although the hotmail address will work just as well.

I look forward to hearing from you.
